More about Faye Schoen
Hello! My name is Faye (Speltz) Schoen. I am excited to have an opportunity to teach a watercolor methods class at Grace Place. Carla asked me to write a little about myself and my passion for painting so here goes:
Actually my love for all things arts and crafts began before I even started school. My mother was a crafter and I loved watching her "Make something from nothing" in her words. I still remember the look and smell of my first box of crayons, and stacks of multi-colored construction paper and shelves of tempera paint (powder back then), brushes and water color in the supply room at Holy Trinity School. It was there I learned: art supplies are precious, "Haste makes waste," and never miss school on Fridays because on Friday afternoon we got to make art.
I have taught a wide variety of art and craft classes including rose mauling, tole painting, fabric painting, calligraphy, quilling, folk art, basic sewing and rubber stamping to all ages including elementary school kids, girl scout troops and senior citizens at my home, community education, as a volunteer in my childrens' schools and more recently as a special educator where I used arts and crafts to motivate reluctant learners.
Art is my happy place: it feeds the soul, brings people together and celebrates the creativity that God has given uniquely to each one of us. In more recent times art has helped me to journey through the grief of losing my dearest friend and husband of 40 years. Painting and making art takes me gently away to safe place.
