FOUNDER and Executive Director
Carla Burton founded the Grace Place Ministry in 1992. She is a single mother of three adult children and lives in Winona, MN. Carla has worked in the fields of Early Childhood Education and Family Ministry for over 20 years. She has a B.S. in Elementary Education, which includes a Pre-K and Kindergarten certification. Carla works closely with the board of directors to provide oversight of Grace Place. She is steering the work to return to shelter, offering safe housing on a sliding fee for families. Carla also leads our Morning Music, Godly Play, Evening Song, Gospel Hour, and Rushford Bible Study classes. She feels right at home teaching and leading others.
Our Store and Ministry Staff
Lola, Tara, Brenda, and Rebeckah
These four employees are the consistent faces of Grace Place in Winona and in Rushford. Lola has served with Grace Place for 20 years, first as a volunteer in the Winona store, and then as the morning cashier. Lola creates weekly store reports and oversees the jewelry inventory of the store. She lives in Winona with her husband and has two adult children. Tara has been a friend of Grace Place for many years; we were happy to have her join our staff in 2017 as our afternoon cashier in Winona. She brings a great skill-set to the work, and we are excited to have her as part of our team. Tara lives in Winona and has two grade-school aged children. Brenda has been a faithful and committed part of our Rushford expansion since the beginning. Brenda is our lead cashier and provides oversight of many of the details in our Rushford location. Brenda lives in Rushford with her husband; she enjoys spending time with her children and grandchildren. Brenda is a gifted gardener and baker; she can be found at local farmer's markets all summer long, sharing crafts, canned goods, and other bounty from her home. Rebeckah joined Grace Place in 2017 after a 4 year partnership through her work with high risk teens. She now works in the Administrative Offices as the Assistant to the Director. Her primary duties include assisting with coordinating staff and training; assisting with the business aspect of running the non-profit; assisting with fundraising campaigns; and developing Grace Place’s use of technology to streamline data collection, external communications, and in-house materials. Rebeckah lives in Lewiston with her husband and three sons.
Nearly 50 volunteers between winona and Rushford
Our volunteers are the heart and soul of Grace Place. Without their faithful dedication to the work, we would cease to function. Our volunteers experience community and care as they serve here. Stewardship is a priority at Grace Place. We believe that we are to be good stewards of all the gifts God gives us, and that includes our volunteers!
Board of Directors
Our board of directors is a vital part of our sustainable work. We currently have 7 men and women from different walks of life who provide oversight and support to the Grace Place organization. Here are 4 members of our Board of Directors at our annual Christmas party for staff and volunteers, December 2017.
